Bangladesh Pop Idol Nears Thrilling Conclusion |

16: A 20-year-old Bangladeshi man who sang for money on trains and
lives in the slums of the capital Dhaka is poised to win the
country's first version of TV talent shows POP IDOL and AMERICAN
IDOL.
NOLOK BABU was forced to beg for money to support his sick mother
before TOMAKEY KUJSE BANGLADESH (BANGLADESH LOOKS FOR YOU) propelled
him to fame.
He is now favorite to scoop the top prize of one million taka
($15,000/GBP8,300) and a new car at the show's final on Friday
(22DEC05).
He was one of 40,000 entrants.
A friend reveals, "When he was nine, his mother became ill. Together
both of us started singing on the trains and since Babu's voice was
so good, every day we could earn about 80 taka ($1.2
dollars/GBP0.80) a day."
Bangladeshi rock star PARTHA BARUA also tips Babu for greatness:
"He's a natural. His voice is full and soothing. I won't be
surprised at all if he walks away with the first prize."

About Nolok Babu:
Nolok babu is a young Bangladeshi vocal who has created
sensation among music lovers in recent days. He is an
example of how a natural talent signs in. Closeup1 "Tomake
Khujche Bangladesh" was hunting for Natual talents alover
Bangladesh and it discovered Nolok.
He was born in such a struggling family in Jamalpur that he
could not even afford formal trainings in music. However,
Jamalpur Shilpakala academy noticed his talent and taught
him basic of music. Then he practiced songs without any
instrument and became popular among low-income neighbors.
Nolok is a versatile singer. Although he performs folk songs
best for his powerful open voice, he also showed endowment
in soft romantic and hard rock.
In only last few months, Nolok became almost a myth. Now
people eagerly wait in front of TV set how he performs in
next round and send SMS to support him. In top-5 level of
closeup he received three and half lac SMS. In this way he
beat his competitors in Closeup1 contest in every round and
none could dislodge him from top 3 positions.
Music lovers hope he will do better and better and enrich
main stream music in Bangla. |
