DEC 23 - Katie Rees, Miss Nevada USA, was officially replaced after
scandalous photos of her hit the net.
The Miss Nevada USA website has been updated to show First Runner-up
(and insanely tan) Helen Salas as the current crown-holder, with a
statement saying that Rees "has been relieved of her duties."
The salaciously entertaining photos showed Rees (Miss Nevada)
exposing herself inside a Tampa Bar, Fletcher's Backstreet Grill,
and outside of a nearby audio system company, Donovan Audio Designs
Inc.

Donovan issued a statement on their website distancing themselves
from the racy photos, saying, "There is no denying that these
pictures were taken in front of our old office. However there were a
number of pictures depicting a rather wild party as well. These
pictures were not taken inside Donovan Audio's offices, nor did the
parties occur there."

Though she's said little in a public forum, Rees' MySpace page holds
a telling Bob Marley quote, "who are you to judge the life i live? i
know i'm not perfect - and i don't have to be, but before you start
pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean."
'Nothing New'
The now former Miss Nevada USA, (Katie) said yesterday that her
breast-licking, thong-flashing pictures online were just a youthful
mistake - but a pal who was a witness to the display said it wasn't
the first time.

"I had seen her doing similar things before," the friend told the
New York Daily News about the March 2004 night when Rees'
naughtiness was caught on camera. "It was not unusual for her. She
was always out drinking with friends and getting wild."
The Miss USA pageant stripped Rees of her crown after the racy
pictures emerged, even though Donald Trump let Miss USA Tara Conner
keep her tiara after she was seen drinking underage, snorting coke
and hooking up with a bevy of men.

"I feel I have been unfairly treated and I am being judged without
due process," Rees, 22, said in a statement yesterday. "I am very
embarrassed by the situation. Regardless, such a brief and distant
lapse in judgment does not warrant my loss of the title I worked so
hard to achieve."
Tampa deejay Shaun Smith, the man shown licking Rees' breast in one
photo, said that he had never seen her act like that before or since
- and he didn't see her consuming alcohol that night.

"We were just a bunch of friends out having fun one night. It just
happened in the moment," said Smith, known as DJ Structure. "I do
believe it's a double standard. If everyone deserves a second
chance, why not Katie?"
Rees has scheduled a press conference today in Florida, where she
grew up before moving to Nevada. But she said in a statement that
"this was by no means representative of who I was, who I am or who I
will become."

Trump and the pageant say that the decision is final. First
runner-up Helen Salas assumes the title and competes at the 2007
Miss USA pageant on 23 March (07) in Los Angeles.

Reactions in the USA have been overwhelmingly against Katie's
unbecoming behavior but critical of Donald Trump letting her keep
her crown.
Writing an op-ed in Delaware's The News Journal, Christine O'Donell
says "So, let me get this straight -- acceptable behavior for
reigning beauty queens is making out with underage girls, snorting
cocaine, underage drinking, and sex as long as it is with a woman or
you don't get pregnant. Unacceptable behavior: Keeping the baby if
you do get pregnant. What's next? Pole dancing in the talent
competition?
Donald Trump and the Miss USA organization were in a position to
finally say "Enough is enough" by demanding that the lucky woman
chosen to wear the crown must represent the United States with
dignity and class. Instead, they set the women's movement back by
decades. In addition to illegal drug use, Miss USA broke her
contractual obligations. Would Trump allow Bill the Apprentice to
break his contract like this?
