Suneet Verma story
By Anupama Narayanswamy
If a leading lady
has one shade, the vamp has myriad. That is what probably fascinates
designer Suneet Verma. He is showcasing his works in the commercial
capital of India, Mumbai after a gap of eight years. And the theme is
The Vamp. The colour is naturally black.
Yeah, we know black in beautiful but Suneet Verma seems to have given
the colour a new meaning. He is actually exploring all its shades in
one singe range. This collection of black outfits -- 80 of them, mind
you -- will be showcased in Mumbai this season. And the look, unlike
the title, is far from vampish!
Dramatic themes have always been the base for his designs in most of
Suneet Verma’s shows. Last year, his theme was Seven Deadly Sins.
Erotic isn't it? Flamboyance is not something new for this Delhi-based
couturier.
Other than the
shades of the vamp, what interests Suneet is the air of mystery that
the negative woman has about her. And her aura. Says he, "the vamp is
a woman who adds all that spice in your life. We just love to hate
this kind of a woman. But what is apparent is that we love her sense
of mystery and image that she deliberately embodies."
Now for the Vamp
collection. Suneet’s eighty pieces that is his designs most certainly
are non-prêt and typically couture. Suneet has used a mélange of
attractive fabrics ranging from the chiffons to georgettes to the
silks with the touch of hot and fiery colours like the red and the
orange. Besides, he will also be using a lot of animal prints in his
clothesline with leopard prints dominating the scene.
For the spark
and the embellishments, Suneet prefers
Swarovski crystals. Suneet’s slinky and sexy garments range from Rs
10,800 upwards which goes up to 75,000. His prêtline starts at Rs
7,500.
With top models about to sizzle on the ramp what with an exotic and
equally enthralling theme, this fashion show has the city of Mumbai
waiting. Here’s waiting for the haute black bonanza.
