Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!
Bipasha BasuNEW DELHI, Oct 31: If there's one thing the Indian fashion industry cannot be accused of, it is an absence of high-voltage glamour. That, plus a phalanx of heavy security, explained the mob scene outside The Imperial as the chic set jammed the driveway enroute to a fancy cocktail to  celebrate the New Delhi launch of 'Signet', the flagship diamond jewelry showroom of the Belgium-based Vijaydimon group.

People often talk about the theatrics of haute couture—the smoke, mirrors, props, and sets—that go into the creation of a successful showing. Signet and couturier Tarun Tahiliani did a volte-face and stripped back to the simplest device of all: fuss-free ensembles complemented by chic diamond jewelry.

Katrina KaifThis wasn’t a humdrum showing by any measure! Choreographed by Aparna Behl and Tanya Lefebvre of Preferred Professionals, the first collection was unveiled by actress Bipasha Basu (who incidentally got a huge dosage of cat calls and wolf whistles!), followed by Katrina Kaif, while leggy lass Shilpa Shetty presented the closing sequence.

‘Subtle luxury’ is how Signet succinctly defined the coordinated sets. “The purchasing power is high in Delhi. It was thus a natural choice for us to open a flagship showroom here,” remarked Vijaydimon chairman Vijay Shah.

The evening showcased a range of jewelry—big and bold necklaces, cocktail rings, danglers, and bangles—which complimented designer Tarun Tahiliani's outfits. “I think long earrings or a stunning neck piece really complement an outfit, be it western or traditional. And I simply love diamonds,” said Shilpa. “It was a beautiful collection and underlines the adage, ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’,” reiterated Bipasha Basu.

Shilpa ShettyGuest List: Who wasn’t there? Bollywood biggies Jackie Shroff, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Mahesh Bhatt, Vinod Khanna, Javed Jaffrey and Sanjay Kapoor flew in from Mumbai to attend the showing.

Chatting up quintessential party girl Ramona Garware were industrialist Peter Punj and his wife, while set designer Jayant took in the showing a tad seriously.
