12: It was no surprise when executive of one off the leading business
houses in the USA came calling for ‘Saris’ from Bangladesh.
According to him, over one crore twenty lakh people of the South Asian
subcontinent including Bangladesh live in the USA. ‘Saris’ being major
apparel for the womenfolk now living in the USA, a few buyers,
according to the visiting executive, also look for ‘Salwar’ and
‘Kamiz’ in the US market.
These types of apparels are normally produced in Bangladesh and
neighbouring India.
The range of Bangladesh saris ‘hail’ from Tangail area and from silk
mills in Rajshahi and Mirpur area in capital Dhaka. Another variety of
sari namely, ‘Jamdani’ is produced there.
The range and quality offered by the Bangladesh saris have been now
known for quite sometime and according to the business man from USA,
the quality of products and prices thereof, both of appeared to be
impressive to him.
The
same visiting executive indicated that Bangladeshi products including
porcelain, ceramics and leather goods have potential market in the
USA. For optimising the market in USA effective measures have to be
taken forthwith.
The visit was looked at, as a major opportunity for the manufacturers,
exporters and the government to come forward and ensure that export
orders as likely to be realised from the above interaction between the
visiting American executive and the local suppliers, bring all round
transformation within the country even as the country makes mark on
the global map by obtaining a sizable foreign market share. |
