BEIJING,
DEC 5: After conquering the hearts of the French and the Italians,
designer Ritu Beri seems to have touched a cord with Chinese women
with her latest line of exquisite garments at a show in Beijing.
Ritu's garments, designed exclusively for the 35-minute display
organised on the sidelines of the ongoing 'Made In India Show' was
jam-packed with leading Chinese fashion houses, expecting to get a
glimpse of what India has to offer.
Despite the late arrival of her flight, Ritu's models, which also
included several Chinese ones, received a standing ovation as they
sashayed to Indian tunes.
Indian Ambassador to China, Nalin Surie and Confederation of Indian
Industry's President Sunil Kant Munjal were present on the occasion
alongwith several Chinese dignitaries.
"It was a terrific show," a Chinese diplomat said, adding that the
show display has left an entirely new and positive impression on the
largely Chinese audience.
The response received by Ritu has prompted her to put up a stall at
the December 1 - 4 Made In India Show, organised jointly by the CII
and the Indian Embassy in Beijing.
Ritu, now CEO of her own company, 'Ritu Beri', is the first Asian
designer to head a French Fashion brand, Scherrer and has started
selling her designer outfits to select Chinese boutiques.
After having launched her ready-to-wear collection in Paris in
October 2000, "Ritu is confident to be in China and was looking at
opportunities here," a company source said. (PTI)
