JAN 25: Certain things are taken for granted at a Tarun Tahiliani showing: Regal ensembles. A high-wattage guest list. Glitz and glamour. He didn’t disappoint – all of that and more were on prominent display at his recent showing in Opera, New Delhi.

Evergreen tracks preceded the bevy of wafer-thin models who strode down the staircase and cut a thin passage through the guests. From juicy hues and body hugging accents to Swarovski crystals in myriad colors, the new line captured the very essence of Tarun's classic style – contemporary, sexy yet elegant. Low backs were de rigueur and 'bare'-ly there ensembles were hung with a cluster of jewels – and fit for a contemporary princess.

Tarun launched his own range of jewelry last year, and has dabbled with wedding designing as well. But Tahiliani says his stints as a wedding designer were only casual. ‘‘I just did it for a couple of friends. Designing is still my first priority.’’

Raising a toast to Tarun Tahiliani’s new collection were former model Priya Sachdev (the lady who has hooked millionaire hotelier Vikram Chatwal), Rekha Puri, Tikka Shatrujit Singh, models Niketan Madhok and Ignatias Camillo, Ramona and Yanchi Vadhera, Peter Punj, Ashwin Deo of Moet-Hennessy India, Shalini Passi, cigar czarina Ameeta Seth, Swarovski’s Sanjay Sharma, actor Fardeen Khan’s on-again off-again girlfriend Ruheen Jaiswal, designers Manish Arora and Aparna Chandra, among others.

 Post-show, the consensus was overwhelming – it was a fabulous collection. Is it a small wonder then that Tarun’s clientele includes the likes of Jemima Khan, the Duchess of Kent, Aamir Khan (for the Oscar presentation ceremony), Aishwariya Rai, Simi Garewal and Kabir Bedi?
