JAN 13: A French fashion guru of Pakistani origin has decided to sponsor a promising Pakistani student of fashion design to go to Paris and work with his company for two weeks.
Mehmood Bhatti, now a French citizen, who released his latest book "Paris mein doosra janam" or "Du Pakistan aux Sentier", is a fashion designer, philanthropist, filmmaker and entrepreneur extraordinaire who has set up a multi-million dollar transatlantic business over more than three decades.The company "Bhatti" is located in Finland, India, Poland, Taiwan, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, the US and the UK. A leading name in the French fashion industry, Bhatti also runs a design institute.
Mehmood was penniless when he arrived in Paris in 1977 but within ten years his company "Bhatti" had a turnover of 150 million francs and he received a special medallion "Travail et Merite" from the Paris City Hall.
In 1990 he came to be known as the best manufacturer of the Sentier, and in 1996 a film based on his life, La Verite si je Mens was made.
He wrote his first book in 1997 and his second film La Verite si je Mens 2 also became a blockbuster. In 2001 he became the honorary consul general of Pakistan in France in 2001. (Hindustan Times)
