KARACHI, MAY 23: Pakistani
designer Amir Adnan has confirmed that he
is making a second wardrobe for former
Indian prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Mr Adnan said the first shipment had
already been delivered in March this year
during the Pakistan-India cricket series.
He is now preparing another sherwani for
the Indian leader. “We are sending him a
prince suit. It’s a small jacket with
trousers,” said Mr Adnan who said he would
also be sending some shirts to go along
with the order. “Mr Vajpayee enjoys
dressing quietly,” Mr Adnan said.
The
first sherwani was off-white, the second
one will be black. “The jacket will have
subtle embroidery on the edges,” said Mr
Adnan.
Word also has it that Mr Adnan has
been invited by top Indian designers to
introduce his line of clothes to India.
Without confirming the rumor, Mr Adnan
admitted that he was going to India but
for a fashion show, not to open shop. “At
this stage all I can say is that I will be
traveling to India, but for a couple of
fashion shows,” he said.
Mr Adnan’s
fashion shows will be in New Delhi and
Jaipur. |
All things beautiful for the bride
She wants to showcase the brilliance of an Indian wedding to the
world. Rubina Mittal is revved up about organising Masala Wedding, A
Vibrant Indian Wedding Exhibition in April 2005 across three American
cities. Coming from a family that has been running Delhi Tents, for
the past 40 years, Mittal knows what she is talking about. “We
launched Pinnacle Designs and Exhibits we did almost 80 per cent of
the decor at the Sahara wedding. Plus, we also have the 20-acre Mittal
Farms, a popular party venue,” says Mittal.
Masala aptly describes
the concept that is an amalgam of the spicy and the vibrant says
Mittal. “With the popularity of movies like Mira Nair’s Monsoon
Wedding, there is renewed interest in everything Indian. And India is
the flavour of the season in fashion too. Unlike most small
exhibitions Masala Wedding comes with a dash of style that is evident
in the choice of venues.
It is the the Rosemont Convention Center in Chicago (April 15-17,
2005), the Hilton, Times Square in New York (April 22-24, 2005) and
the Hilton Towers, Universal City, in Los Angeles (April 8-10, 2005).
“We won’t just have fashion designers but footwear, artisans,
jewellers and service vendors too. The positioning of the event is
upmarket and right from the selection of the trousseau it addresses
the need of the to-be bride’s entire wedding,” says Mittal who has
also tied up with prominent newspapers and magazines. The grand finale
is planned in New York starting with Los Angles.
“The US is a market that hasn’t been tapped till today and many
NRIs are not exposed to the latest Indian fashion trends. So Masala
Weddings will give them a slice of India,” she sums up. (Hindustan
