NOV 15: 'The Perfect Face' is coming to India this December.
International supermodel Saira Mohan will lead a discussion on the
'Role of Women in 21st Century' at the Indian Economic Summit as part
of the World Economic Forum in New Delhi from December 5 to 7. She
will report "productive notes" of the discussion to senior government
officials.Mohan, who has been a fashion model for more than a
decade and on whom Newsweek bequeathed the title of 'The
Perfect Face' in its November 2003 issue for her ethnically ambiguous
beauty, will visit Indian along with her husband Christopher E Cooper
and their seven-month-old baby boy, Romen Alexandre Ramkumar Cooper.
Saira Mohan, 25, has resided in Canada and in the US, and has
graced the covers of such magazines as Newsweek, Elle,
and GQ.
On December 5, Mohan will participate in a closed-door NRI
brainstorming session with the government and representatives of
Indian business, to discuss how the three can work together for mutual
benefits. The Minsiter of NRI Affairs is expected to attend the
session. The following afternoon, she will lead a discussion with a
panel of women from various walks of life to discuss the evolving role
of the 21st century woman in the Southeast Asia and around the world.
(Saira once told Hindustan Times that she felt like an Indian
goddess "when I am wearing a sari".)
On the final day of the summit, Mohan will moderate a session on
'Indian Fashion and Design'. Famous designer Ritu Beri is the key
speaker for this session.
In an exclusive e-mail interview to Hindustan Times, Mohan
said, "I am attending the forum meet in my capacity as an individual
with a vested interest in helping to proliferate India's success in
areas of fashion and entertainment."
Her husband Cooper said, "We will be in New Delhi between December
4 and 8 and then in Mumbai until the 15th or so. We were planning to
visit several cities, however, demand for Saira's schedule from
various media seems to be causing plans to change."
The "new global standard of beauty" with dusky looks and svelte
figure, Mohan added that she was looking forward to "speaking with the
women of Southeast Asia about their strife, strides and future goals".
