NOV 13: Supermodel Indrani Dasgupta has run away to become a showgirl
in a nightclub—and she looks all the better for it! We’re talking
about couturier Siddhartha Tytler’s recent showing at the
four-storied nightclub, Elevate.
When a label is sailing along as smoothly as Tytler’s, the
temptation to stick with familiar formulas is hard to resist. But if
the audience was expecting a reprise of the designer's earlier
collection, it was in for a surprise. He instead sent out ensembles
in wool, leather, suede, knits, velvets and traditional Rajasthani
embroidered fabrics (!), which were liberally embellished with a
smattering of crystals and sequins!
The affable son of politician Jagdish Tytler and a promising fashion
designer, Siddhartha Tytler is big on theatrics and wowed India’s
chic set at the unveiling of his latest contemporary line.
While the
production and the clothes delivered the drama, the collection was
young and flirty. Concentrating on club wear, both the women and
men's lines were a fusion of western styling with Indian
sensibilities.
The entire collection oozed confidence; mad mixes of structured
silhouettes with peek-a-boo drapes clashed with flirty bottoms. This
collection was a ‘trip’, in every sense of the word. “Structured
knee-length skirts are the ‘in’ thing this season for women, and
fitted pants for men. Jodhpuris will be pretty hot too,” revealed
Tytler.
Tytler had the audience expecting a bold show of colour. However,
while there were shots of orange, lilac, and buttercup yellow, he
kept in sync with the season's burgeoning minimalist streak and
focused primarily on form and shape.
The color palette consisted of
a smorgasbord of hues; every color had been painstakingly picked
keeping in mind the season and festivities lined ahead in the coming
months –- earthy and Mehndi tones, burnt oranges, greys, hint of
lavenders and blues, and an overt presence of black.
According to Tytler, "‘Smart’, ‘articulate’ and ‘confident’ are
three exact words which I personally feel is what my target audience
is and my collection this year is all about that. My efforts have
been to create clothes that make people feel special. You have no
boundaries, no set rules; you can mix styles, fabrics and themes.
Best of fabrics, latest styles matching international forecasts, and
an attention to detail is what sums up my collection." Touché …
Guest List: Paris Hilton look-alikes in pencil heels and dripping
with diamonds, with guys sporting hair styled to look either
windswept or spiked.
Indrani Dasgupta attracted the maximum
eyeballs. Devil and Dilip Cherian were among the early entrants
followed by tarot card reader Poonam Sethi, Shaleen Jain, Gaurav
Raina, liquor baron Monish Bali, and Bharat Saini (actor Rishi
Kapoor’s future son-in-law).
Among the fashionably late crowd
('whoever comes on time!') were designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul
Khanna, couturiers Gauri Karan and Manav Gangwani, Saba Khan, Arun
Ahuja, Gautam Punj, etc.
Spirits: There was none of the trendy, flash-in-the-pan mixology.
The bar menu offered Smirnoff and beer. Nursing a monster hangover
from Wednesday night, we weren't too keen on a drinking binge –– but
the bartender refused to take ‘no’ for an answer and concocted a
refreshing cocktail with Vodka, Sprite and chilli flavorings to
balance the sweetness … simply sensational!
