The Glasgow restaurant faced "hot" competition from some famous and widely known restaurants in Birmingham, Bradford and London, but emerged the winner. Its manager Raj Bajwe picked up the Carlsberg-sponsored award from food writer and curry expert Peter Grove.
Café India has attracted celebrities like Tom Jones, Keanu Reeves and Sir Sean Connery. The restaurant also won the Best in Scotland award.
The award to Cafe India has shown that chicken tikka tandoori masala has not only replaced the traditional fish and chips as the national dish but also that the annual turn-over of over £3.5 billion of the Indian food industry is due to the excellence of the Indian food that is being served all over the United Kingdom.
