Bobby Deol speaks his heart out as his latest flick 23rd March
1931: Shaheed Bhagat Singh is to be released next month. Bobby
himself is playing the part of Bhagat Singh in the movie accompanied
by his brother Sunny Deol as Chandrashekhar Azad.
We met him on
location at the Police Commissioner's office in Mumbai, where prior to
going in for his assembly shootout, Bobby talked about his latest home production, his role and forth-coming films.
Excerpts:
How
does it feel being Shaheed Bhagat Singh, brother of Chandrashekhar
Azad?
I feel quite
nervous and excited at the same time. But there is no pressure as
such. Bhagat Singh was a true respectable Indian so I decided to play
the character. I feel 7 June (date of release of the film) is my exam
date and the result will be out soon after that.
How
different is your film from the others that are also on Bhagat Singh?
The
basic concept of all Hindi films is the same. It’s just the way you
put an idea in to manner treating it differently. There is no great
difference as such. Our presentation is what makes the difference. The
film highlights the character of Bhagat Singh that how he ran away
just before his marriage to serve our motherland. The shoot is almost
complete now. I am very much looking forward to the film.
Tell us about how you prepared for the role?
I had to do a lot
of homework. I had discussions with my whole team. And yes, tensions
prevailed at some point of time during the shoot. It was no easy task.
For the first time, I was playing such a character and it was very
important to be in Bhagat Singh’s shows all the while. In many scenes
I took advice from Sunny to know whether the shot was all right or
not, specially when I wanted to put in more than what I thought I was
at that point in time. Once Sunny says ‘yes’ to it, then I gained
confidence. Basically, it was all a team effort. Others have equally
worked hard offering their best as well.
How
different is the character of Bhagat Singh from the others you have
played so far?
This
is a true character, my dream role I’d say which I’ve never played so
far. This is the character that has actually lived in history making
it kind of a real life story. The film itself is different from the
previous films in which I’ve worked till now.
23rd
March 1931: Shaheed boasts of some of the best sets erected in the
history of Hindi cinema. But the fire took it all. Despite the great
loss, the audiences would love to see the film releasing on time. Is
it possible now?
(Gets
upset) Yes, the sets of assembly hall caught fire while shooting at
Chandivali studio in Mumbai. But I don’t want to talk about the
accident now. Although the set was insured, one might have never
thought of such a big disaster. The release date might get postponed
because of this accident and that is what worries me. Right now we are
planning to release it on June 7.
What are the other films in hand now?
There is a thriller
film called Hamraz and the other one is Chor Machaye Shor with David
Dhawan. Although I’m not considering new offers much nowadays, there
could be a couple of projects more with Abbas-Mustan and Vikram Bhatt.
But nothing is finalised as yet. I can’t comment anything on the
characters for any of the films at this time.
