Cadbury's Bring Back Iconic Flake Girl |
FEB 6 - The 60’ TV and cinema famous ad 'Flake girl' is set to make
a return to the UK's TV and cinema screens this Friday after a five
year absence.
Shot by a top Hollywood director, Jake Scott and starring actress
and international model, Alyssa Sutherland, the ad retains the
iconic Flake theme tune and focuses on the unique way of eating a
Cadbury Flake: peeling back the wrapper and enjoying the crumbliest,
flakiest chocolate in the world.

Adverts starring Flake girls started in the late 1950s. This is a famous
image from a 1970s ad. |

including former Miss World Eva Rueber-Staier in 1971. |

Girls
The Flake girl became a symbol of indulgence and secret pleasure and
the TV ads were voted among the most memorable of all time. This one
is from 1991. |
The new £5 million pound advertising campaign created by Publicis represents
the largest spend by the brand in the last five years.
The first Flake ad was launched in 1959 and the brand's advertising
was recently voted the 'nation's favorite' by ITV viewers. The adverts
were known as much for their hint of sexual pleasure as for the
chocolate bar.
Previous Flake girls have included James Bond actress Eva
Rueber-Staier, girlfriend of Prince Andrew Catrina Skepper and Debbie
Leng, who later became the partner of Queen drummer, Roger Taylor.
Cadbury spokesman Tony Bilsborough said, "The Flake girl is so well
loved by the British public that it made sense to bring her back.
Whilst we can't reveal any more details at this stage, we are
confident that the new campaign will be one of the most talked-about
adverts of the year."
Nik Studzinski, executive creative director of Publicis said: “It’s
every creative’s dream to have a chance to re-invent a Flake girl.
We’ve brought an advertising classic bang up to date, keeping the mood
and concept, but adding a modern twist. The film making is beautiful,
the music has been reinvented for today’s tastes, and even the Flake
girl herself has a new edgy look.”
Last year, Cadbury’s chocolate bars were the centre of a salmonella
scare. The Flake ad is the first in a string of ads and promotions due
to come out this year in order to boost the brands' reputation. |
