1 - Bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Aishwarya Rai have been invited
to a luncheon meeting with President George W Bush on Thursday
afternoon at Taj Palace, New Delhi.
Aishwarya who is currently in Brazil, shooting for Yash Chopra's
Dhoom 2 is unlikely to join other celebrities that include
industrialists Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Mittal and Ratan Tata.
Rai's business manager Hari Singh confirmed receiving a call from
the office of the Minister of External Affairs, stating that they
would like Aishwarya to attend the lunch meet with President Bush.
Singh said, the actress could not make it to the meet because she
left for Brazil yesterday and the invite came very late.
The Ministry of External Affairs has its own reasons to send the
invites in the last moment. The lunch invite was released a day
before because of security reasons, as the list of invitees was to
be kept secret, MEA sources said.
The
invitation for Thursdays lunch with President Bush is also sent to
actor Aamir Khan. However there is no word from the actor whether he
will attend the high profile luncheon meet.
Aamir has strong views against American policy and he has publicly
criticized US imperialist policy specially its invasion of Iraq.
Bollywood personalities in past have often been invited by
government at the parties thrown for the heads of state.
Former Prime Minister Vajpayee invited Shah Rukh Khan and Rani
Mukherjee for the dinner hosted in honor of Pakistan's President
Musharraf during the failed Indo –Pak peace talks in Agra.
President Musharraf is reportedly to have told Rani that she was
very popular in Pakistan. |
