Aishwarya Rai in Trouble Again |
|
|
DEC 7 -
The Enforcement Directorate
(ED) has initiated a move to ascertain whether a case of
foreign exchange violation could be made out in connection
with the receipt of a parcel from the Netherlands that
contained Euros 23,000 in the name of Aishwarya Rai.
The ED has asked the Customs department in Mumbai to submit
its report about the parcel sent to the former Miss World
by one Avineshwar from Rotterdam in September-end, official
sources said.
The ED asked its Mumbai office to approach the Customs
department to obtain the report pertaining to the parcel,
which contained electronic goods and 23,000 Euros, so that
it could ascertain if a case under the Foreign Exchange
Management Act (FEMA) and Prevention of Money Laundering
Act (PMLA) could be made out.
The ED's move came after the Customs department and
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) gave a clean chit
to Aishwarya in the matter.
Senior officials of the ED termed the move as routine,
saying the directorate had to probe all cases of recovery
of foreign exchange.
Aishwarya was extensively questioned by the Customs
department on November 20 for two-and-a-half hours, after
which she was given a clean chit "as of now".
The Customs registered a case against Avineshwar under the
Customs Act for not declaring the goods sent in the parcel.
The punishment for this offence ranges from a fine to
imprisonment for three years.
The parcel arrived at the Foreign Post Office in Mumbai in
September-end. Besides the currency, it contained a top-
brand shirt, a pair of binoculars, a DVD player and
electronic items. |

Bollywood Unites For Sanjay Dutt |
|
|
DEC
7 -
In a show of support for actor Sanjay Dutt, Bollywood will
organize a signature campaign on December 12 at Film City.
But contrary to reports in certain section of the media,
there will not be any peace march or bandh.
"We are not calling a bandh. All we are doing is launching
a signature campaign to show our gratitude towards the
actor who has been kind to all our workers of the film
industry. The signature campaign will only be for a day and
all our workers — from spot boys to actors — will visit
Film City on December 12 to show their support for Dutt. We
have told all producers to give them concession for the
day," said Dharmesh Tiwari of Federation of Western India
Cine Workers.
Pahlaj Nihalani, president of the Association of Motion
Pictures and Television Program Producers, said, "We don't
have any intention to interfere with the court's order or
influence the judiciary. The idea is to express our support
for Sanjay who has in the past helped the film industry
workers in whatever way he could."
The film producer added, "All that I can say is that Sanjay
is a nice person, always helpful and has already undergone
punishment by spending some time in jail and going to Tada
court regularly for the last 13 years." Nihalani also said
the whole of Bollywood welcomed the verdict to the extent
that Dutt had been exonerated of terrorism charges.

Big B on Raani and Baabul |
|
|
DEC 9 - One thing that can be said for sure about the Big
B's films with Rani Mukherjee is that they often project
the actors in very unusual, exceedingly unconventional
combinations. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black they played
the amazingly unorthodox teacher and pupil. And in Karan
Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the Big B played the
philandering Sexy Sam who tells his daughter-in-law to
leave his son so he can find love. Now in Baabul the Big B
and Rani play the protagonists. A father-in-law who's
determined to get his widowed daughter-in-law remarried. So
pivotal are the two characters that Hema Malini who plays
the Big B's wife, confesses she has relatively little to
do. Says Big B, "the interesting thing about (Baabul) is
that the seeds of its plot were sown in Sholay many years
ago. The relationship Rani shares with me does have
similarities to what Jaya shared with Sanjeev Kumar in
Sholay." (Source: IndiaFM) |
