Sholay Reinvented!
DEC 24 - Ram Gopal Varma has been working at a frantic pace to complete his interpretation of Sholay. Here’s a glimpse of Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay.

Ramu on Sholay

My Sholay is a remix of many westerns and a completely different interpretation of the earlier Sholay. The uniqueness of Sholay’s story is that it’s not a genre film. It’s the story of a man who wants to take revenge. It was supposed to be a dark, violent film where you hate the villain but instead made you love Gabbar Singh.

Ramu on Amitabh

When I first told Amitabh Bachchan that I was remaking Sholay he laughed. He thought I was joking. It took me 10 minutes to convince him I was serious. I narrated the scenes to him and the way I was planning to shoot, adapt and redesign the characters for contemporary times.

Ramu on Ajay

Ajay and I go back a long way so he has a certain trust in me as a director. I remember when I had narrated the Sholay script to him during the making of Bhoot Ajay was super excited about it. He was the first guy I spoke to about adapting Sholay. My intention of remaking Sholay is not to make a better one but to adapt it. I want to change her clothes and see her in another dress.

Sholay retold

Virendra Chavade (Ajay Devgan) and Jai Ranade (Raj) have grown up in Latur together admiring success and strength. They come to Mumbai and start working for Shambhul Seth who is being chased by police inspector Ranbeer (Mohan Lal). When Ranbeer comes into contact with Jai and Veeru he realises their values are still intact, exposes them to Shambhul’s past and makes them help him getting revenge on Gabbar Singh (Amitabh Bachchan).

Gabbar, has destroyed the inspector’s family and left behind a grieving widow, Devi (Sushmita Sen), who was married to Ranbeer’s brother. Ghungroo (Nisha Kothari), is Mumbai’s only woman auto-rickshaw driver, who lives close to Ranbeer’s home. She is Devi’s best friend. (The Mid-Day)

Liz Hurley Visits India for Beau Arun?

DEC 22 - British model and actress Elizabeth Hurley was spotted in Udaipur on Thursday, basking in the sun on a boat in one of the many lakes.

The actress, who is to marry her India-born beau Arun Nayar sometime soon, is in the country for a shoot for a swimwear collection.

The brunette, who was with British actor Hugh Grant for over ten years, has several Hollywood films to her credit, including a role as the 'Devil' in 'Bedazzled'.

She was also the face of international make-up and skincare brand Estee Lauder.

Hurley, who has a son by film producer Steve Bing, had earlier denied any plans of marrying businessman boyfriend Nayar, who recently divorced his Italian wife.

Hurley is said to be learning Hindi to please her fiancé and his family, and has paid several visits to India of late.

Radio Mirchi Makes History
DEC 21 - Delhi's popular Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM has entered the Limca Book of Records for making the first radio film — "Kuch Kuch Sunta Hai." The romantic audio movie was shot earlier this year. The Limca Book of Records has awarded a certificate to Mirchi, stating: "Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM shot the first radio film Kuch Kuch Sunta Hai on June 23, 2006 at Lodhi Gardens, New Delhi. Radio jockeys (RJs) played the lead roles in the movie..." The audio film was followed by another radio film — Bijli Ki Khoj — enacted on Delhi streets by Mirchi's RJs and listeners.
