John Abraham to be arrested in hit & run case

April 10: Mumbai police have registered a case of negligent driving against the John Abraham who is currently admitted in Lilavati Hospital after sustaining injuries in a motorbike accident on late Saturday night.

According to hospital sources, the condition of Abraham was stable and the decision regarding his discharge will be taken on Monday evening.

Police sources say, once discharged, Abhram is likely to be arrested but add that the offence is bailable.

Abraham injured his left ankle and knee after his motorbike skidded while avoiding a pedestrian crossing. He himself went to Lilavati hospital after the accident for an x-ray and was advised hospitalization. The incident took place in Mumbai suburban Khar.

This is the second time the actor has been hospitalized since December last year, when he contracted bronchitis while shooting for a film in Afganisthan.

Salman sent to Jodhpur jail

April 10: Salman Khan was on Monday sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 for the September 28 1998 poaching case when a Chinkara (Deer species) was killed by him at Godha farmhouse in Jodhpur. The case was registered against him and five others in 1998.

Salman was taken to Jodhpur central jail under judicial custody where he will spend at least two nights before he can file for a bail in the district and sessions court Wednesday because the courts are closed Tuesday due to Mahaveer Jayanti, a public holiday.

Salman, facing four poaching cases, was earlier sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the same court on February 17 for killing the endangered animal but the sentence was suspended for a month to enable him to appeal.

Chief Judicial Magistrate B.K. Jain who was hearing the case found Salman guilty under various section of the Indian Penal code as well as section 51 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act.

He also found Goverdhan, a guard of the Godha farmhouse to be guilty and sentenced him for one year rigorous imprisonment. Four other accused in the case were acquitted.

Earlier, the Chief Judicial Magistrate had heard the defense counsel's argument March 28 and had fixed April 10 to deliver the judgment.

On April 7, he rejected Salman's application for summoning a witness, Harish Dulani, who has missed court appearances for many years on the grounds that the arguments of the case stands closed.

Dulani was said to be the main witness in the poaching case and reportedly retracted his earlier statement that he had seen the actor killing the animal.

Salman faces four poaching cases.
