Tabu Unplugged

Tabu: She is one of the finest actresses of the late 90s but has been out of action for a while. Yet, she admits that she is out of work, at present. An unmistakable combination of talent and humility, Tabu says that she will return soon with a cameo in Yash Raj Films' Fanaah.

A t�te-�-t�te with the in-exile actress..

So, what have you been up to?
I have been travelling a lot. I don't like to sit in Mumbai when I have no work. I have many friends in places as far as Chennai and Kolkata. So, I keep going there because I get to indulge in whatever I feel like. For me, peace is important and I look for it, in such places. Of course how can I forget Hyderabad? I always end up going there; and it is so often that I have lost count.

Why did you sign Fanaah?
It was a great script. I still get fascinated by good work. I thought I should do it. But I have been asked not to speak about it. So, I will keep it there.

Why have you cut down on your work excessively?
I was never known to do much work. I do not work for money. I work for the pleasure of being a part of cinema. I thrive on cinema. I watch movies, and like working in them. It is like a family. It has a language of its own.

Most of the actresses your age are married�
So, what can I do? Even I follow them and get married? That's not women are for. I come from a family which respected women. We were always told to look at things objectively.

Don't you feel like settling down?
I do want to get married. But where have all the good men disappeared? But yes, let me make it clear that whoever I will marry shouldn't stress on cooking and all the other domestic chores. I think women can do many more things and as much as a man can do.

So, you like being independent?
In a way, I like my individuality but at the end of the day, love is important; romance is important. But the other bad side of a relationship is that it can, at times, work against you. But normally, it brings the best out of you, and gives you a perspective in life.

Kareena Unplugged

Kareena Kapoor: Kareena Kapoor�s dumb. At least in her next film if she can never be one in real life. The bold, brash and brazen actress who has taken on everyone in her career was once very excited when Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to cast her in two films simultaneously � Bajirao Mastani as well as Black. While Bajirao Mastani has not even started, Black had Rani acting in it. �I am very happy to get back with Sanjay. Let bygones be bygones,� said Kareena when she was cast in the lead role in Black. Kareena had fought with Sanjay Bhansali and bad mouthed him after he dropped her from Devdas in favor of Aishwarya Rai. Kareena gets the role in Priyadarshan�s next film Chupke Chupke.

What is the role of the mute girl all about?
To begin with the film is radically different and diametrically opposite to the genre that Black belonged to. It is a comedy in a typical Priyadarshan style. Priyan likes my work and has been casting me in all his projects now. After Hulchul he cast me in Kyunki with Salman Khan. And now I get to work with him in this film which is about life. I play physically challenged person in the movie and Shahid (Kapur) plays the guy opposite me in the movie.

Another movie with Shahid?
We first worked together in Fida. Then we did Milenge Milenge which should release now. Even that�s a fun film. Then we have this Abbas Mustan film for Subhash Ghai 36, China Town. We are in the midst of a rocking schedule for Priyadarshan�s movie. All four films that I have done or am doing with Shahid are different from each other. So even we do not end up getting bored.

Your only film together did not do well
Yes, but you know what kind of a storyline Fida had. What kind of a film it was? I was trying to con him and then we were fighting like sworn enemies in the film. The movie going audiences know us two people who are very close to each other. They o not want us to see in those kind of roles where we are at each other�s throats.

You have fights with a lot of people in real life
Yes I do. But I do not keep that in my mind. I speak what I want to. I have even slapped my spot boy at times. But If I keep these things in my head then I shall never be able to do good work. I have had problems with Bipasha and Bobby Deol during Ajnabee, but I am working with Bobby again. I don�t mind working with Bipasha too.

Coming back to Shahid, how is it going?
See, at the moment, Samaira is the most important person in my life. As for Shahid, he�s always there for me. I call him at any time of the day or night to tell him that I gave bad shot or I had a bad day. Being an actor, he knows what I am saying and can relate to it. Moreover, he is also my age. He identifies with me and my thinking as well. He is also very normal with me and treats me normally. My other friends are sometimes in awe of me. He is not like that. That�s one more reason we are able to hang out together. We are great friends now.

Finally how is your career doing?
Well, to tell you the truth, I am just about to sign two very big movies. I am not supposed to talk about it. I may lose them in the process. But I shall keep you updated. At the moment I am just spending time with my niece as well. When I get free, I shall tell you.
