JAN 14 - After months of speculation, Bollywood's most
talked about couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai
finally got engaged in Mumbai on Sunday.
The engagement ceremony took place at Aishwarya's residence
in Mumbai soon after the couple landed from the premiere of
their latest film Guru in Toronto and New York.
Sources said Abhishek put a ring on Aishwarya's finger to
mark the engagement. Among those present were Amitabh
Bachchan, his wife Jaya, their close friend and Samajwadi
Party general secretary Amar Singh, Aishwarya's parents,
industrialist Anil Ambani and his actress-wife Tina.
Abhishek's father and superstar Amitabh Bachchan confirmed
with CNN-IBN the event took place after the couple returned
to India.
Earlier, it had been reported that the marriage will take
place on February 19, 2007. But that has not been confirmed
as yet by either family.
The marriage would be Bollywood's biggest wedding in years,
predict many.
Some newspapers have reported rumors that the pair have
already wed. Rumors of the nuptials gained momentum when
the pair visited a temple in late November to pray and
emerged with marigold garlands around their necks, usually
a tell-tale sign of a traditional Hindu engagement.

Abhishek and Aishwarya, also known as Abhiwarya, first
acted together in the movie Kuch Na Kaho in 2003,
where they developed close friendship.
At the same time, the films that Aishwarya preferred had
Abhishek in the lead roles.
Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2 (where she was paired opposite
Hrithik) or Guru -- all had Abhishek's presence.
Little is known on when the friendship developed into love
but the first signs are reported to have surfaced after
Aishwarya split with her last boyfriend Viviek Oberoi in
November 2005.
One of the main reason for the split was Aishwarya never
publicly acknowledged that she was dating Viviek Oberoi.
She was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 2003 as
Bollywood's leading lady and was interviewed by Oprah
Winfrey and David Letterman.
Abhishek, who is a couple of years younger than Aishwarya,
was earlier engaged to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor.
However, the engagement broke off and Karisma married
Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapoor in September 2003.

16 - A Banarasi lehenga, priced at more than 2 lakh rupees, which Ash
is likely to wear on the wedding day, would be ready by the month end.
"The lehenga would be crafted by a master weaver of the city, famous
for signature Banarasi sarees and it would be Banarasi zardozi work and
Kolkatan-Jaipuri embroidery on a silken base", said Vishnu Jalan, owner
of Jalan's Kabira dresswear showroom. Meanwhile father-in-law-to-be,
megastar Amitabh Bachchan said on Monday that Abishek Bachchan proposed
and Aishwarya accepted. "I was the first person he called to break the
news. I was overjoyed and gave them blessings and I asked them to come
home soon."
The superstar, who said normally he was hesitant about Abishek's
acting, was generous with his praise for his role in Guru.
"I congratulated him. This was one action that was marked by
excellence and showed the maturity of his performance. It was a tough
role every actor would aspire for. It was an extremely commanding
performance and he had done full justice to the role abridging a span
of 40 years into three hours."
When told his reaction was "humble", Bachchan quipped "factual".
Asked whether he felt lonely at this happy moment when Abishek and
Jaya Bachchan have gone for a shoot like Aishwarya, he said, "I am
thankful to the media for keeping company, " reported PTI today.
