'I want to do better so SRK can copy me' |
|
|
JAN 28 - There is an indefinable frisson of tension when
Amitabh Bachchan talks about the challenger though he will
never admit to any rivalry between himself and Shah Rukh
Khan.
"Competition propels and provokes you, that somebody is
around the corner. I would like to see Shah Rukh Khan as an
inspiration. I want to do better, make better films, so he
can copy me," said the Big B in an exclusive conversation
with The Times of India.
On the eve of receiving the highest French civilian honor,
the Legion d'Honneur, Bachchan let his mind roam — to his
forthcoming films, his career, his son and even the state
of the nation.
He refuted the suggestion that
Nishabd , in which
he plays the role of an older man attracted to a very young
woman, is a remake of Nabokov's
Lolita . Asked if
Amitabh Bachchan as Gabbar will get to speak the immortal
lines, " Ab tera kya hoga
Kaalia ?", he was not forthcoming, but expressed
optimism that Ram Gopal Verma's Sholay "may become the
byword for future Sholays
".
The film legend said that he fully understood what Brand
Bachchan is all about commercially, but when asked about
recent estimates that put it at Rs 700 crore, Bachchan
scoffed," That's too little." |

Aishwarya 'domesticated', says
Big B |
|
|
JAN 28 -
Legendary Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan said in an interview
broadcast on Saturday he considered his future daughter-in-law, leading
actress Aishwarya Rai, "domesticated" and a "simple girl".

When asked what it was that impressed him about Rai, Bachchan told the
NDTV news channel: "I think she's a lot simpler than what is made out
of her. She's a very simple girl, very traditional. She's also very
domesticated."
Former Miss World Rai, 33 and Bachchan's son, Abhishek, 30, are among
the country's top stars. They got engaged earlier this month, putting
an end to feverish speculation about a hush-hush romance.
TV channels and newspapers said the marriage -- Bollywood's biggest for
years -- was likely to take place as early as next month. Some have
even suggested Feb. 19 or March 7 as possible dates.
On Saturday the couple offered prayers in a popular temple in the
Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh while attending the birthday
celebrations of leading politician Amar Singh.
"Abhishek applied 'sindhoor' on Aishwarya's forehead," a local priest
told reporters. "This is normally done only by married couples."
"Today's prayer was also aimed at ridding Aishwarya of various effects
of certain astronomical configurations," he said.
Although there has been no sign of an astrological mismatch between the
pair it is customary in India to try to eliminate any bad omens as a
safety precaution. |
