Rekha keeps a low profile at IFFI

RekhaDEC 2: The Bollywood quotient at the International Film Festival of India here has been heightened with actress Rekha, putting in an appearance but the reticent diva is keeping away from the limelight.

The 'Umrao Jaan' star, who dropped in at an IFFI function yesterday to pay homage to her father Tamil superstar Gemini Ganesan, did not speak on the occasion.

Even Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) Director Afzal Amanullah, admits he is yet to meet her.

"I had an appointment with her but unfortunately we could not meet. But then, one has to respect people's privacy," Amanullah said today.

Rekha is currently busy shooting for filmmaker Goutam Ghose's Hindi film 'Yatra.'

IFFI loses out on Satyajit Ray film

Satyajit RayDEC 2: The International Film Festival of India missed out on a chance to screen filmmaker Satyajit Ray's cult classic 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne' here after its prints failed to arrive in Goa on time.

The screening of the Bengali film, scheduled to be part of the retrospective in Indian musicals, was subsequently cancelled.

"The prints of the film did not make it in time for the screening. If we do get hold of them, the film may be screened on the closing day of the film festival," Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) Director Afzal Amanullah, told reporters today.

The 1968 children's fantasy had been Satyajit Ray's first commercial success. Digitally re-mastered versions of three of Ray films, including 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne,' are scheduled to be re-released in Kolkata cinemas in January 2006.

The film festival had almost managed to lose out on Chilean director Miguel Littin's classic 'The Last Moon' after organizers reportedly misplaced the prints of the film.

"Littin's film will now be screened in the morning on the closing day of the festival on Sunday," Amanullah said.

Incidentally, the acclaimed filmmaker is the Chairman of the jury for the Competition section at IFFI 2005.
