10: Meghna Naidu recently got the shock of her life when a couple of
peeping guys crept in on her during a show, and tried to watch while
she was stripping.
Says the actress, who recently appeared as a blind girl in Rain, “I
was completely traumatised. Rakhi Sawant, two other girls and I were
performing for a stage show in Ahmedabad a few days ago.
They don’t have proper rooms for changing there, but makeshift
enclosures made of cloth. During the show, when I went to change in
one such room, my sister, who was with me, saw a hand in the cloth.
‘Don’t change your clothes, Meghna,” she yelled, ‘there are some
people here!’. When we looked behind, we saw a couple of backstage
helpers trying to cut a patch out of the cloth from the corner, so
they could see inside. After that, nobody felt like changing in the
room.”
Security tightened
What happened next? “The security caught the two boys and gave them
a beating. And since then, instead of just two, we have increased
the number of security guards outside greenrooms. I have become very
careful after this incident, and always check carefully and see if
there is anybody lurking around outside before changing,” shudders
the actress.
Professional hazard
Does she feel such incidents have anything to do with her raunchy,
sexy image? “No, it has nothing to do with my image. It’s part and
parcel of any celebrity woman’s life, and can even happen to a
sari-clad heroine. Imagine what happens to Aishwarya and Sushmita
when they go for shows… what trauma they must be going through!”
Role model
Is the actress planning to trade in her sexy image for a more
serious one? “No, I love my image — why should I give it up? But I
am looking for more serious roles thatwill be performance-oriented,
especially after Rain, where I received a lot of appreciation for my
role. I want to work on better projects.”
Meghna’s next releases are Karan Razdan’s Eight, Bad Friend, and
Jackpot.
