12: Last seen with ‘King Khan’ Shah Rukh in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’,
Kajol is back from her long hiatus. “I will be returning to the big
screen with Kunal Kohli’s ‘Fanaah’. Moreover, it is my first film
opposite Aamir Khan and I am pretty excited about it,” enthused
Kajol, when we caught up with her at the launch of a new range of
Asmi diamonds at The Oberoi, New Delhi.
Known to be choosy about her roles, the actress will now be playing
a simple Kashmiri girl in ‘Fanaah’. “I can’t reveal too much about
the film at this stage. Shooting is underway in New Delhi. In fact,
it has been quite an interesting experience because the shooting is
taking place at Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Purana Qila
and Lodhi Gardens. ‘Fanaah’ co-stars Aamir Khan who plays a
terrorist and Tabu will also be playing an important character in
the film,” says the spunky actress.
Is it a carefully choreographed step to grab audience attention, we
wonder? “Well, I am willing to take risks and do unconventional
roles which excite me but I do not deliberately choose films with a
shock value or because it has an out-of-the-box subject. Believe me,
it is pure coincidence that most of the films offered to me have
been hard-hitting in character,” is her take.
Are there any plans to co-star with sister Tanissha in a film, a la
Shilpa and Shamita Shetty? “No! Tanissha has exciting projects
though! Arjun Sablok, who earlier directed ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’ is
directing Uday Chopra and Tanissha in a young film, ‘Neil n Nikki’.
The promos are currently on air.”
Films notwithstanding, Kajol and hubby Ajay Devgan have recently
been seen in a flurry of advertisements, endorsing washing machines,
fridges, and mobile connections! Now there is an entire range of
diamond jewellery named after her! What gives? “It’s not as though
we are accepting each and every brand that comes our way for a few
bucks! We are very careful about the brands we associate ourselves
with. Basically, we have to feel comfortable endorsing the products.
It should be something we would like to associate ourselves with,”
she retorted.
‘Fanaah’ aside, what can we expect from the dusky actress in the
near future? “‘Fanaah’ is not a comeback vehicle of sorts. The
script was something I totally agreed with so I decided to do the
film,” she said, adding, “I have deliberately not signed any other
films because films are a round-the-clock commitment. Giving birth
to my daughter Nysa and watching her grow up are experiences that I
really cherish. So much so, I want to have another baby. But first,
I want to learn some cooking and also travel to some interesting
destinations. So, you see, I have my hands full right now.”
As a parting shot, we asked her if this was the London Blasts
effect? “Subconsciously, yes maybe although we weren’t close to the
affected areas; we saw it on television in our hotel room. One of
the blasts occurred not far from our hotel. We were staying in River
Plaza, Central London. Luckily, we didn’t venture out that day, as
Nysa had not been keeping too well. It was quite strange seeing the
usually busy streets totally empty. The shops were shut and
everything came to a grinding halt. We were flooded with calls from
relatives in India, but they couldn’t get through, as the mobile
lines were jammed for three hours. It was a nightmare.”
