IRS officially approves Tax Exempt Status 501(C)(3) to JEXCA NA INC. retroactively from January 23, 2001. We are now exempt from Federal Income Tax. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the IRS Code. We have also been recognized as a Public Charity.

JEXCA Alumni Reunion 2008 was successfully held in Pennsylvania. Farooq Jan of 3rd intake is said to have been elected the new President of the alumni Association for a period of two years. More details to follow.

The JEXCA Alumni is holding its annual reunion in in Lock Haven University, Pennsylvania-"the Keystone State", from 2nd - 3rd of August. The first day program stands as follows: Morning: Arrival in Lock Haven University; 11 AM : BBQ and fun event in Bald Eagle State Park ; 5 PM : JEXCA North America AGM; 7 PM onwards: Dinner and Cultural Show. On the second day, the program consists as Morning: Breakfast; 8 AM : Sightseeing; 12 PM : Dispersal.

The costs stand as follows: Family = 100 USD; Single (Professional) = 50 USD; Single (Student) = 25 USD;

The annual Federal and State tax returns of JEXCA NA Inc. for the year ending 2007 were filed with the authorities. Additional documentation required by IRS for 501C(3) application were also submitted in a timely manner.

After almost 3 months of hard work, review of forms and documents, the 501C application for JEXCA NA, Inc. was mailed to IRS today. Now we got to wait to hear from IRS. It is a process that may take time but the good news is 99 percent of the time, applications filed for Tax Exemption are approved after extensive review and document submissions. We would like to thank all for making this happen. Once the exempt status is obtained, JEXCA NA, Inc. will have to follow the IRS 501C3 regulations: http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=96099,00.html

On Sunday December 16, JEXCA NA, Inc. donated $5000 to the Cyclone Relief Fund by handing over the check to the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York, Mr Shamsul Haque. Some 20 ex-cadets and their family, and the news media attended the event held at Kabab King in Jackson Heights in New York. The Vice Consul, Zahid ul Islam who happens to be a JEXCAite himself, from the 23rd intake was also there. Major Gen Ishtiaque from the 6th intake, who is presently serving as Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey, called on phone to congratulate our efforts. Local NY based Correspondents from Desh Bangla, Bangla Potrika, Bangali, DeshBidesh.net  were present to cover the occasion. The event included a self-paid Buffet Lunch/Dinner.

A pledge for two more desktop computers for Project BYTE has been received bringing the total to 8 to-date. Another pledge for 8 more desktop computers is in the works which will then bring the total to 16. BYTE envisages as many as 25 to launch an effective computer based learning center at the alma mater JCC. If any JEXCAite in USA would like to pledge or give ideas and suggestions in this matter, he may please do so by emailing us at BYTE@jexca.org or to JEXCANAINC@gmail.com

JEXCA NA Inc.  has sent $1850 = Rs1,22,850 to JEXCA Khulna via JEXCA Dhaka for flood relief efforts. Another $1900 = Rs129,200 will be sent shortly. Meanwhile additional pledges have been received for the SIDR Cyclone Relief Funds efforts. Pledges have also been received for six desktop computers for project BYTE. The College needs at least 19 more computers for a total of at least 25. For pledges, ideas and suggestions, please email to SIDR@jexca.org for SIDR relief efforts and to BYTE@jexca.org for the computer matter.

JEXCA NA Inc. has announced Project BYTE to facilitate establishment of a Computer Center or Computer Laboratory at Jhenidah Cadet College. Supply of a dozen Desktop Computers, one or two Printers, Networking of these computers and safe filter-based internet connection for them including but not limited to supply of some latest popular softwares is the goal of project BYTE. Uptil now 5 or 6 computers have already been pledged by some of the JEXCAites living in the USA. The names of these individuals will be announced soon. The objective is to empower the Cadets with knowledge of computer, latest software programs and internet usage. Efforts are underway to submit documentation with the IRS (Internal Revenue Services, USA) to obtain 501(c) status which will make JEXCA NA Inc. a tax exempt non-profit organization. During the approval processing period, all donations made will be construed to be tax exempt unless the IRS disapproves our application which normally does not happen. Services of an accountant and a filing professional are being obtained to guarantee smooth and swift approval of the 501C status for the organization.  Ideas and suggestions are welcome. JEXCA NA Inc needs volunteers, Interns to run, update and add more features to the website jexca.org and jexca.net. Contact webmaster@jexca.org We also need help in performing promotional and administrative work for the organization through remote stations or in a  home based  environment anywhere in USA, Canada or Bangladesh.
