Depending on which survey you view,
anywhere from 50 percent to 70 percent of men cheat on their wives or
girlfriends. But what type of man is most likely to be the cheatin'
kind?
Infidelity expert Ruth Houston, author of
"Is He Cheating on You? 829 Telltale Signs," says some men are more
likely to cheat than others. She advises women to look at certain
things in their background, their personal history, and character
traits.
The easiest way to conduct this examination is to answer "yes" or
"no" to these seven questions:
- Does he thrive on adventure?
- Did he have a great deal of sexual experience prior to your
relationship?
- Does he have lots of female friends?
- Does he have male friends who are cheating on their wives or
girlfriends?
- Does he have a parent who cheated?
- Did he cheat in any of his past relationships?
- Does he feel that infidelity is really no big deal?
What do the questions mean?
Question No. 1: If your man loves adventure, beware. Cheating
is a big adventure, and some men enjoy the suspense, deception, and
intrigue that accompany infidelity. Houston says they'll cheat just
for the "thrill of the chase."
Question No. 2: Men who were very sexually active before
settling down in a committed relationship are more apt to engage in
sex outside that relationship. As Houston quips, "Don't expect a
leopard to change his spots."
Question No. 3: We all need friends, but when men have close
friendships with women, it can be the starting point for infidelity.
"Just friends" can turn into red-hot lovers. The closer the
friendship, the greater the chance they'll have an affair.
Question No. 4: Peer pressure isn't just for kids in middle
school. If he has friends who are cheating, Houston says he'll be
cheating himself--and soon.
Question No. 5: This may sound strange, but infidelity tends to
run in families. Children of unfaithful parents see infidelity as the
norm, and when they grow up, they are more likely to cheat on their
mates.
Question No. 6: This is the cold truth. If he has cheated
before in another relationship, chances are he will cheat again.
History does repeat itself.
Question No. 7: Deep in his soul, does he truly believe that
infidelity is wrong? If not, his behavior will reflect his beliefs.
What do your answers mean?
The more "yes" answers you have, the greater the chance that your
true love is a cheater. Houston warns, "Even if you only have one
'yes', there's still cause for concern." Still, some "yes" answers are
more potent than others.
If you answered yes to No. 1, No. 2, OR No. 5 but not all three:
Your man is a potential cheater who will probably cheat if the
opportunity presents itself.
If you answered yes to No. 3 or No. 4 alone, together, or in
combination with No. 1 or No. 2: Your love is just a common
garden-variety cheater who will cheat if he feels he can do it without
getting caught.
If you answered yes to No. 6 alone or in combination with No.1, No.
2, No. 3, No. 4, or No. 5: Look out, girl! You're dealing with an
experienced cheater who's probably good at covering his tracks. Watch
him like a hawk!
Here's the biggie! If you answered yes to No. 7 alone or in
combination with any of the others: You, my dear, have hooked up
with a hard-core cheater. In fact, he's probably having an affair
right now.
