 NEW
JERSEY, DEC 6: If Oprah and David Letterman can mend fences, why not Benazir Bhutto and General
Musharraf?
People will say that's being overly optimistic about Pakistan's most
celebrated political feud. They will point to bitter dealings with
each other over supercharged issues, and their dug-in positions.
Having been in the USA for almost 22 years now, I have oscar-tangoed
several of my observations here with issues and situations back
(home) and googled the web with the hope to close the gap or the
irrelevancies. Sometimes I've been lucky and somewhere I had to
really stop....it would Goooooooooogle too much.
Somewhere there are iota, I think, in the labyrinth of algorithms which the
Google servers gobble to survive and spit out "faster than they can
think". I've realized that's not fair. If we human beings did the
same....and in milliseconds, one of us would say "are u fu**ing crazy?
what's the matter with you....can't u think before you do or say
anything? c'mon now....dadada!!
But all of us let Google slide....the more we let it slide
the more its stock prices go up.....that's the algorithm we need to
gooooogle and then download......we'll be giggling forever then while
Google can Google all it wants forever I mean.
Coming back to Mush-BB feud. Actually they are sitting in their
respective dugouts. That's a softball game funda. Waiting to go out
there in the field and bat or field depending on which inning it is.
Both teams have to field and bat for the game to finish of course in four innings. The most difficult part is to hit the round ball
with a round bat. But that's the name of the game. If you miss the
ball...three strikes and you're out. 'Three Strikes' is a common law
in America. BB has one chance left though. So let's see how this
rendition or embedment will be carried out or how it pans out in
front of us.
 Sohail
Warraich of GEO TV is on the hot seat now. He is not just a guy on the
street. He's Political Affairs Editor of the most circulated Urdu
daily Jang newspaper, and Geo TV Anchor. He's also author of several
books, based in Lahore, Pakistan and a household name of course. On
his latest 'Generaloon Ki Siyasat' (Politics of Generals) book
launching ceremony, nine people were booked for speaking out very
loudly against Musharraf and the Army. Attaullah Qasmi, the former
Pakistan ambassador to Norway, a very well-known humorist, poet and
orator was one of them. It seems the matter is serious or have been
perceived serious by the affected parties.
Typically Mr Qasmi's tongue and cheek is as good as David Letterman
or Johnny Carson here. I wouldn't bring in Jay Leno into the
equation. Mr Qasmi is "har(d) ley (a) Davidson. How Mr Qasmi
joked his way to the other side of the freeway beats me. The subject
"Politics of Generals" is serious business though. It's no joke!
Jokes aside, 'enlightened moderation' needs to be a holistic
business - you can control its speed and direction but the magnitude
should remain a constant for 'enlightened moderation' to be a vector
not a scalar, otherwise a good concept will either explode or
implode.
We already have a Javaid Hashmi in priso . We don't need
more! |
