KARACHI, DEC 22: Former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto's spouse and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Asif Ali Zardari was detained at Islamabad Airport
on his arrival from Sukkur to Islamabad Tuesday and sent
back to Karachi. Upon arrival at Karachi, Zardari was arrested.
Arrangements were made in
Karachi Central Jail and Landhi Jail for his arrival but he was taken
to Bilawal House, Karachi instead. Bilawal house was declared as a sub jail for him.
Meanwhile, Special Judge
Anti Terrorism Court Karachi Central Syed Pir Ali Shah was transferred
to Sindh High Court. Judge Syed
Pir Ali Shah had cancelled Peoples Party leader Asif Ali Zardari’s bail
in Justice Nizamuddin and his son’s murder case on Tuesday. Shah
had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Zardari ordering him to
appear in the court on January 8.
Judge Shah refused to condone Zardari’s absence, cancelled his bail and
issued non-bailable warrant of arrest.
Earlier reports said, the Rawalpindi and Islamabad administration had not allowed Asif Ali Zardari to hold
a demonstration Tuesday December 21 at Fawara Chowk.
Mr Zardari planned to lead a public
rally at Fawara Chowk. Earlier, the PPP-Parliamentarians accused the Rawalpindi administration of
removing banners welcoming Mr Zardari.
Zardari's detention appears to dim hopes of a
reconciliation between opposition figure Bhutto and President Pervez
Musharraf.
But one political observer thinks, "it is possible Zardari opted to go
back to jail and be safe rather than be killed out on the streets. "
Zardari has been lately indicating that there were conspiracies to
remove him from the scene. He even accused Sindh Chief Minister of
being involved in such conspiracy.
