Bollywood star plays perfect fund-raiser in Pak |
JAN 17 - A cricket tour, people-to-people contacts, the goodwill
bus, Karafilm, to name a few, have created a groundswell of
bonhomie between the people on both sides of the border,
helping the two nations boost a fragile peace process.
Latest such an effort is Bollywood heartthrob Arjun Rampal being
the focus of everybody's attention at a fundraiser organized
recently in Karachi to raise funds for the victims of the
October 8th earthquake.
The evening managed to raise an impressive figure in ticket
sales, donations and a small auction conducted by the
charismatic Indian actor-model Arjun Rampal.
Initially mobbed by a crowd of fans, the
model-turned-Bollywood-star's natural stage charm managed to
bring great benefits to the evening, reported The News.
An airline ticket from Karachi to London and back, contributed
by local artiste Abdullah Kidwai, was sold for a million rupees
and an ensemble donated by Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal was
also sold off to a generous bidder for the same price.
The fundraiser was organized by non-profit, non-government
organization (NGO) - Teachers Resource Centre (TRC), which has
been holding such events along with the Indian film industry for
the past three years.
TRC has been raising funds for its own cause, but this year all
efforts were directed towards the earthquake. "It was the need
of the hour," said Zeba Hussein, chairperson of the event.
The show was choreographed by Aparna Bhel and Tanya from India
who also handles the annual Lakme India Fashion Week
event. |

Lollywood actors Muammur Rana, Irfan Khosat and Sana are part of
the starcast which also includes India's Parikshit Sahani, said

De is being produced by Indian Punjab's Culture Minister Raj

The film, being made under the banner of World Wide Punjabi

rivalry along with the current process of peace making," a
statement quoted Dr Verka as saying. "Akshay is playing an
important role of bridging the divide between the neighbors."
"We
have got all the necessary permissions to shoot in Pakistan and
Akshay will accompany us whenever he is required," Dr Verka
added and lauded Akshay for being exceptionally supportive by
acting in the film free of cost.

the nations and I thought this could be a right way to forward
my support to the Punjabi film which is set to create history by
getting canned and released across the border," Akshay Kumar
said.

anything for my country)," he said.
