March 28:
Indian mega success and Akbar Khan's historical film, "Taj Mahal - An Eternal
Love Story", will be the first Indian film in 41 years to be
released in Pakistan.
The cultural affairs ministry delegation watched the movie at
the FICCI-FRAMES 2006' Global Convention in Mumbai last week and
gave the clearance to the movie.
Bollywood sources told despardes.com the decision has come as a
pleasant surprise, considering Pakistan's previous decision to
hold back the release of the classic "Mughal-e-Azam.".
The release of "Mughal-e-Azam" could not go ahead due to
bureaucratic problems despite President Pervez Musharraf
extending his support to the screening of the film. Musharraf
is reported to have given the green signal after receiving a
request from the family member of K. Asif, the director of the
1960 classic.
.
Indian films have a tremendous following in Pakistan and the
clearance of "Taj Mahal " for release is expected to
pave the way for new ties between the film industries of the two
countries. It will encourage other producers on both sides of
the divide to look at the huge market prospects across the
border and may also curb the flourishing parallel DVD industry
with rampant piracy. |
