LAHORE,
MAY 2: A photography exhibition was held at the National College
of Arts (NCA) on Thursday, featuring the work of Tapu Javeri,
Amean J, Arif Mehmood and Izdeyar Setna.
Abdul Sattar Edhi, Abida Parveen, Adeeb Rizvi, Ardeshir Cowasjee,
Ali Azmat, Arif Hassan, Begum Nawazish Ali, Hameed Haroon,
Hameeda Khuhro, Iraj Manzoor, Javed Miandad, Maheen, Meera,
Naheed Siddiqui and Shahid Sajjad were featured in the
photographs. Each of these people was shot by all four of the
photographers.
The turn up at the exhibition was remarkable and the people were
impressed with the untreated photography.
Tapu Javeri said the exhibition was initially held at the Indus
Valley School (IVS) in Karachi and Nazish Attaullah, Principle
of the NCA, had requested to bring it to Lahore. He said that
the faculty members at the IVS objected to the photograph with
Meera’s leg show, but he refused to understand why an art school
was narrowing down its parameters with such objections. He said
he painted over the photograph to make it more acceptable.
He told Daily Times that the objective of shooting each model by
each photographer was to highlight the different perspective
each of the photographers had.
Ghazal Ahmed, a student at NCA, said that photography should be
promoted as well as painting, and that this was a more popular
culture in Karachi and that it should be brought to Lahore as
well. (Source: Daily Times) |
