"Pehchaan" goes on air

A still from PehchaanNew Jersey, Nov. 18: New TV drama serial "Pehchaan" is going on air tomorrow, November 19, on HUM TV.

Watch video:

The announcement was emailed to DesPades.com by Pehchaan's producer Ms Asma Hashmi, who is also the CEO of New Jersey-based TV production company Dramatix USA.

Asma joined hands with renowned Pakistani TV actor and producer Humayun Saeed to produce Pehchaan - all 13 episodes shot in New York and New Jersey. The theme evolves around the lives of three Pakistani girls living and working in New York, their stories and conflicts as they relate to US-based Pakistani Diaspora in general.

Its script is written by Azra Baber from Houston, Texas, with story outline by Mehreen Jabbar, who is also the director of the play.

Mehreen Jabbar (L) with Pehchaan crewMehreen, who has a track record of producing and directing a number of award winning telefilms and TV serials is very excited about her latest directional venture. It is her first in USA. A similar drama serial directed by her was "Aur Zindagi Badalti Hai", based and entirely filmed in Madrid, Spain. It depicted the lives of Pakistani Diaspora in Spain. It was aired on PTV in 2000 and was a grand success, according to her.

In 'Pehchaan' she has taken up a contemporary topic, typical of desi living in New York, and has attempted to localize it to Pakistani viewers' tastes, she says.

Mehreen, who is New York based is also involved in a 13-episode mini serial along with several other directors for Hum TV - all depicting the lives and living of Pakistani Diaspora in the USA. She is directing 5 or 6 of the episodes, she told DesPardes.com.

A still from PehchaanThe entire play Pehchaan has been filmed in New York and New Jersey. Each episode is of 50 minutes duration. It was actually scheduled to go on air on Hum TV in October but was pushed back due to the  earthquake.

"Pehchaan's" cast includes Sonia Rehman, Rehan Sheikh, Ismail Bashey from Los Angeles, Deepti Gupta and Padma Khanna from New York, and well-known actor from Pakistan, Khalid Nizami.

The entire production crew was hired from New York, which includes Sehban Zaidi as Assistant Director, Alex Stikich as Cameraman, Andrew Pokopenko and Mike as Sound Assistants, Brad Reichel and Canella Williams as Production Assistants, and Sushmita Patel as Make up Artist.

The serial is shot on DV format. It is Dramatix USA's first TV production.
